Because the Israeli left is a minority (as the Israeli right is a majority) this makes it more difficult for them to organize and to build a mass movement. 2. Does the left not see the potential role it could play as a counter-hegemonic power? The left is for the most part not a counter-hegemonic force. It is not a force that will try to replace capitalism with a new system. This forces the left to do many things that are not particularly radical. At the same time, this does not mean that it can’t work as a counter-hegemonic force. 3. Isn’t there a risk of romanticizing the power of the left? This is a danger of all revolutionary movements and movements towards revolution. But as with the romanticization of other movements like the French Revolution or the Cuban Revolution there is also a risk of the left itself being romanticized. We do not want to romanticize the left. However, when we look at movements of the left, it is the case that they cannot help but to romanticize and glorify themselves. 4. Can the left only fight on the inside, that is, within the framework of the state? The left in the United States has always fought on the inside. However, the struggle for democratic rights is not simply a struggle for the rights of the individual. It also has to do with the overall social and political system. In this respect the state in which the struggle takes place is the central point. The state, capitalism and the economic system in which we live are inseparably connected. It is not enough to just change the government of the United States. 5. Does capitalism still pose a danger? We are living in a time when capitalism is in crisis. The economic system that is based on private ownership of the means of production, is collapsing. The social system in which people live has to change in a radical way. This change cannot take place without a new way of organizing production. We have to move beyond capitalism as we know it today. We have to move towards socialism. 6. Isn’t the struggle for rights connected to the class struggle? The
